The kantharos was particularly widespread in the Etruscan cercamica bucchero from the late seventh century a.c., where are emphasized the hem and the foot; This version, which is the typical form, spreads in the sixth century BC in Attica and Viotia. The latest evolution of kantharos is one that is located in the Apulian red-figure pottery and Greek pottery with black paint of the fourth and third centuries BC

Parallel to the main form develop other types with loops which are maintained up to the rim, concave walls, low foot, with or without stem, continuous profile, or the absence of rim, with only one handle; no shortage of plastic kantharoi, with human and gianiformi busts.
